Feeling good is the key to my week, and to my life, though I have only just begun to actively practice it. Up to now, confidence, and leadership were based on my spiritual and ethical beliefs and experiences only. Now, I can actually choose feeling good as THE potent tool in bringing me to where I want to be.
See, even horrific people like dictators and power-mongers get what they want - at least for a while. Why is that? They are hardly one's model for good leadership of the kind that serves all in positive ways.
I think I've got it. It's their certainty - that energy of positivity even in the midst of darkness - that they can have whatever they want. It is also, in the case specifically of dictator and power-monger types, their willingness to do anything at all to get what they want.
But their self-doubts, whatever they may be, seem to be silenced by the gushing river of their certainty.
Well, I'm not a dictator type, so I'm not willing to do anything externally to get what I want. But I am more than willing to do anything internally. And that is where leadership begins.
This is a simple and non-woo-woo idea, actually. When you're overheated by summer heat or by anger, you don't make your best decisions. I know I don't! Environment is a powerful force on us, whether we realize it or not.
If you are a leader, and hot and bothered, you're not going to do your best decision making either. If you are more of what is called a "servant leader" you are going to be trying to do your best more often than not. So what does "feeling good" have to do with that?
It's the inside to the cake, actually. You can create the form of a cake - smear frosting thickly on the outside of a cake mold, put paper on the "inside", and just smear some more frosting on top, but that thing isn't going to taste very good once you get past the frosting.
You can make positive decisions all day long, but your best is going to remain untouched if you are removed from your feelings. It's a matter of quality and of deepening your energetic connection to yourself and to your clients and colleagues! They will feel the difference. You know this to be true: you know the difference between someone who is smiling without any warmth, and someone whose eyes crinkle up at the ends and whose smile makes you smile in return because suddenly you feel good, you feel smiley!
Don't worry. This post is not about becoming a Polyanna. It is about becoming aware that how you feel, matters. It matters to you as a leader, it matters to those you lead, and it matters to the life you lead.
