The Government Communications
1. Emailed Representative Landsman, Congressman for Southern Ohio - had a phone meeting with his Deputy Chief of Staff
• Chris Dalton, Landsman's Deputy Chief of Staff, was a lifeguard at Sunlite Pool for 15 years and called it the best time of his life, except maybe for now. Said he is sad about Sunlite.
• I mentioned I'd heard that Pureval may be taking a closer look whereupon he said, "Aftab's interested? I'll give him a call. And I'll talk to the Congressman later today! And this is my personal cell phone I'm calling you on, so text or call me if you need anything else." But I haven't been able to get a response from him since. |

2. Emailed Representative Rachel Baker - got a response. See below
• Got a HELFUL response from Baker's office with this message in which she mentions that what we need to do is reach out to our local state senators "to voice these concerns and advocate for your cause". The addresses for our state senators are kingly provided below by Ms. Foley.
Dear Lori, Thank you for contacting our office to share these thoughts regarding Coney Island. I will be sure to share this message with Rep. Baker. Rep. Baker has begun conversations with local leaders to understand the burden that the new proposed music venue would have on the community. Her main goal is to ensure that economic growth and development do not come at the expense of local governments or the residents of the community. We recommend reaching out to your local state senators to voice these concerns and advocate for your cause. Since HB 2, which contains the One-Time Strategic Community Investment Fund, has only been passed by the Ohio House, state senators still have an opportunity to advocate for changes to the bill. The state senators for Hamilton County are Senator Steve Wilson ([email protected]), Senator Louis Blessing ([email protected]) and Senator Catherine Ingram ([email protected]). Your district is represented by Senator Ingram and State Rep. Dani Isaacsohn ([email protected]). We hope that this information is helpful to you. If our office can ever be of assistance in the future, please feel free to reach out. Our valiant street stalker, Chuck, comes to us with REALLY HELPFUL information that there are LOTS of people who don't even know that Sunlite is in such danger. No idea!
So let's get some Tik-Tok videos out there! Let's get some Facebook videos out there! WHAT ARE SOME PLACES YOU KNOW (GROUPS ON FB OR LINKEDIN, OR WHEREVER!) THAT WE CAN PUT OUR VIDEOS ON SOCIAL MEDIA? |
Let out your creativity and make videos and get them out onto social media! Let's get our Grass Roots effort to really SIZZLE!
But what do I say??? Here's what you say:
But what do I say??? Here's what you say:
- "Didja know that Coney was bought by CSO/MEMI and they want to kill Sunlite pool?"
- "Didja know that The Save Coney Islanders, a bunch of people just like you are trying to save it?"
- "Didja know that it's not a 'done deal' just because CSO/MEMI have millions and we don't?"
- "Wanna join the fray and the fun of discovering that your voice actually matters? Go to www.saveconeyislanders.com."
B. Email the Senators and Representatives!
If you hate writing, or don't have time, I'm putting an email to the right that you can copy and paste or alter and use. Get your friends and family to send it too. The emails for the senators, again, are: The state senators for Hamilton County are Senator Steve Wilson ([email protected]), Senator Louis Blessing ([email protected]) and Senator Catherine Ingram ([email protected]). Your district is represented by Senator Ingram and State Rep. Dani Isaacsohn ([email protected]). |
Dear Senator (or Representative)_________,
I am a member of The Save Coney Islanders - one of the 25,000 people in Cincinnati who recognize the imminent threat to our health and well being that destruction of Cincinnati Coney Island's Sunlite Pool represents. We strongly object to the characterization of Sunlite as a "childhood memory", as phrased by CSO/MEMI's Jonathan Martin. There have been and continue to be thousands in the tri-state area that come to Coney as the only pool in the area that is:
This is both a historical landmark and a rescue during the ever hotter summers due to global warming. This is a place that reduces violence due to being a place to cool down and reduce stress. On their website, CSO/MEMI say they want to promote Diversity and Inclusion; this is the biggest place of such diversity and inclusion in Cincinnati! We want to share the land with CSO/MEMI, MEMI doesn't want to manage the pool and wants to create something that benefits business and ignores social wellbeing of the people they want to charge to go there. This is our community. It is 5-10 acres out of 100. We don't think acreage is MEMI's objection - we think they just don't want to deal with the pool and didn't know its import. Now they do. Please do not kill Sunlite Pool! We have other options. MEMI won't speak to us. We hope that you will. Sincerely, [name] |
