Mother Love: A Personal Journey - Embracing the Wound, Tempering the Steel
What would you do, think, ask, if you walked into a room and the divine as you understand it were there, physically real, and hugging you?
You might start asking a lot of questions, which is what I did when the great Indian saint, Ammachi - a.k.a. the Hugging Saint - entered my life in 1988.
I was hindered by clinical depression and anxiety and would be for a lot of years after that, and this made me wonder: how can God and mental illness be present in the same space? Is there a way to heal other than begging God to change my circumstances? What is faith and what is God if clearly those things are not automatic get-out-of-jail-free cards?
This book chronicles my first 18 years with Ammachi, my spiritual teacher and mother, as she made her visits to the U.S. and I made my way through my questions about spirituality and healing.
For anyone who has confronted spiritual questions and seemingly insolvable difficulties, this book is authentic, honest, and will leave you with the right kinds of questions for your own journey.
